There is no time limit for staying on BHRT. So long as you are feeling the benefits you may stay on BHRT indefinitely.

The menopause is a natural part of life and it usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 years. Most women have completed the hormonal changes of the menopause by the age of 55 years. However, some women can experience menopausal symptoms indefinitely.

Usually you can feel some of the benefits of BHRT three to six weeks after commencing treatment. Most patients see a significant improvement after six weeks. If your hormonal imbalance is severe results can take longer.

Many women can feel rejuvenated with improved energy levels and libido. Skin and hair can look and feel healthier. Bones can be stronger helping to reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Yes, BHRT is entirely a natural hormone obtained from plant sources. There are no animal products in BHRT.

The hormones are obtained from wild yam or soya bean plant sources and then manufactured into powder form. They are then made available in oral or transdermal forms.

Most women do not experience any side effects. The hormone levels match your own hormone profile. Oestrogen can cause breast tenderness and vaginal bleeding and progesterone can your mood and energy levels, however, side effects usually are only seen with high levels of hormones which are not used with BHRT. To minimise any of these side effects your we always commence you on the lowest possible dosages.

A private prescription for daily doses per hormone will cost you between £1 – £3. Less than a  cup of coffee!

Cosmedica Clinics use “Specialist Pharmacy” which is based in Dagenham. Your prescription is individually compounded and made up to your exact dosage requirements looking at your

hormone profile and prescribed by your medical practitioner. Your BHRT will be sent to the clinic for your collection. 

It is not necessary to inform your GP that you are on BHRT, the decision is entirely up to you and we are happy to write to your GP accordingly.

Possibly, however this would need to be discussed with your oncologist and GP and we would advise you to receive BHRT if appropriate, at a specialist clinic that we can recommend to you.
